Democracy Action Team
UU congregations across the country are building a pro-democracy movement in preparation for a rapid response if our democracy and UU values are threatened. The first step was to name our congregation as a Democracy Action Team (DAT). Next, over the course of three open meetings, the NSUC Democracy Action Team decided to focus our energy on specific areas. A separate team will be formed for each action area; members will monitor non-profit groups and social media to determine if an action is needed by the entire DAT. These actions may address concerns at a national, state or local level.
When an Action Team determines a need for action, their facilitator will send the request to our four-member Rapid Response Team who will vet the request for action and decide whether to send to all members of the congregation (our DAT). Individual members will decide if they are comfortable taking the suggested action. These actions may include calling an elected official, sending an email or a text, attending a rally, or demonstrating against unfair laws or policies.
